Visas for the UK

These pages should help to answer all your questions about visa requirements and the visa services available from the British High Commission. If you require any further information or guidance please
contact us.

Please note that only the British High Commission has the authority to issue UK visas for travel to the UK.

Mauritian nationals do not require visas to travel to the UK as visitors for less than six months.  However, if they choose to do so, they can apply for entry clearance at the British High Commission before travelling. All other categories must apply for entry clearance at the British High Commission.

Opening hours for submitting applications:
Monday, Tuesday Thursday – 08.15 – 09.30
Wednesday – 09.00 – 10.30

Please note that visa applications cannot be submitted on Fridays

Telephone enquiries:
Monday – Thursday  - 1330 – 1530
Friday – 1130 - 1300

Members of the public should come in person to deposit entry clearance applications between these hours only.

Please note that it is not a requirement that you have a valid air ticket.  We shall endeavour to issue entry certificates to genuine travellers to meet their proposed dates of travel, wherever possible.  However, all applicants are advised to seek their entry certificate well in advance of the date of their travel to avoid possible delays, particularly since the entry certificate fee will not be refunded.  However, this may not be more than 3 months in advance of the date of travel.

Note:

Not all applicants require an interview.  The Entry Clearance Officer may issue or refuse an entry clearance on paperwork only.

Students may not apply more than three months in advance of the start date of their course.

All applicants must produce the originals and photocopies of all documents with the exception of passports and application forms for which copies are not required.

Check here if you need a visa.

All enquiries about - and applications for - UK visas and UK Residence Permits are handled by the British High Commission. Visit our how to apply and documents required pages for more details.

Our current service times are 1 working day for all visa applications. If we need to interview you or if we request further documentation, these service times will not apply.

Application fees may vary slightly in accordance with changes to the exchange rate for the pound sterling.  The full cost of the UK's worldwide visa operation must be met from visa fees. Fees are reviewed regularly to ensure that they continue to represent the full cost of processing.  Find out what visas cost at our visa fees page.

Please note that we only accept payment in cash (Mauritian rupees) for local applicants.

Applicants from Madagascar should send their visa applications to the British High Commission in Mauritius by return courier and transfer the application fee in pounds sterling to the High Commission bank account. The account details are as follows:

GBP Account
Barclays Bank Plc
Sir William Newton Street
Port Louis
Mauritius
A/c no: 2090470
IBAN: MU80BARCO3070000020904700000GBP

Applicants should ensure that they have paid the return courier cost to enable the courier company to return their passport once a decision has been made on the application. Applicants should apply well in advance, as applications can only bee processed once payment has cleared and we have received written confirmation from our local bank.

All applicants seeking a student visa in order to study in the UK must ensure that the establishment at which they propose to study is registered on the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) Register of Education and Training Providers. The register is available on the DfES website for students who wish to check if their institution is registered.

Recommendations or complaints can be addressed to the Entry Clearance Manager in writing or consular/visa complaint forms are available at our reception.  All complaints will be fully investigated and a response sent within 15 working days.
