If you need a lawyer

Neither Her Majesty’s Government nor the British High Commission can provide legal advice to individuals involved in private disputes.

However, the attached lists of solicitors and barristers have been prepared to assist you in seeking legal advice in Mauritius. A full list of solicitors and barristers, as issued by the Supreme Court, is available on request from the Supreme Court. Neither Her Majesty’s Government nor the British High Commission take any responsibility for the competence or probity of any person on the list or for the consequences of any legal action initiated or advice given.

Solicitors holding a Restricted certificate have, since 1960, been able to practice in Mauritius without taking the Criminal Law examination. It is local practice for barristers to deal with most cases of criminal law and they may be approached direct. Solicitors will handle cases of civil and criminal law.

You are strongly advised to obtain a quote for services before signing any contract or agreeing to any work being undertaken. The British High Commission cannot assist in any disputes about fees and costs.
