Environment Cooperation

EnvironmentThe British High Commission has contributed to environmental projects run by the non-governmental organisations involved in environmental protection including the Mauritian Wildlife Fund and Shoals Rodrigues, a local NGO working on coral reef preservation.

Most recently, the British High Commission supported a project to identify more environmentally – friendly techniques of octopus fishing. This was part of Shoals on-going work to educate fishers about the importance of protecting the coral reefs from damage caused by fishing.

The British Government also contributes to environmental cooperation through the European Union’s focal sector budget of almost 40 million Euros which will focus this year on Wastewater management.
